Together with the U.S. Embassy, the Digital Council hosted the first Transatlantic Digital Policy Dialogue with the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador, Nicholas Merrick. The discussion centered on how to strengthen the digital economy in Czechia and how to open the Czech digital sector to American investment. As the digital world faces a wave of new regulations, digital resilience and competitiveness have become major priorities in both Europe and the United States.
Key takeaways from the debate:
- The transatlantic bond is vital and must be strengthened. Czechia and the U.S. are clear partners in innovation, AI governance, and tech diplomacy.
- We introduced our digital policy recommendations for the Czech government at both the European and domestic levels. This represents the Digital Council’s first major contribution toward keeping Czechia among Europe’s digital leaders and ensuring that Czech companies are not stifled by unnecessary regulation.
- There was a consensus on the need to actively promote the Czech IT sector in the U.S.—from startups to deep-tech. A prime opportunity for this will be the upcoming spring trip of Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček to Washington and Texas; the U.S. Ambassador also frequently speaks highly of Czech digital firms.
- A shared commitment to a secure, open, and innovative digital economy.
The debate demonstrated that transatlantic cooperation has concrete and fundamental substance, and together we can push it even further. For the Digital Council, the partnership between Czechia and the U.S. remains one of our core priorities.
We would like to thank all the roundtable participants for an open and thought-provoking discussion.
